documentation of the mobile | DECONSTRUCTION project

Final Project

It’s hard to describe this video, but a few things would include:

Isolation

Luke, on the cell phone, is completely in his own world. He is only focusing on what is going on in his conversation over the phone. Entirely isolated within the technology, separated from the physical networks around him.

Big World, Small Person

The world surrounding Luke has evolved into something much larger than his conversation. It symbolizes what happens when physical networks are successful. They create a much larger network, instead of a small, single network.

Disappear

Eventually Luke disappears. This represents that all physical networks have been lost and broken. Even his phone conversation has been erased, as non-physical networks can only last so long. The piece ends in white, as it represents the absence of colour; colour that is shown through our true colours, that can only truly be represented through our physical network.

Learning

For this project, I took a real production approach. I primarily focused on the production of my project, and used the research to support my vision. Two main things that were a learning experience for me, was the use of Chromakeying, and building the website in Wordpress. The Chromakeying took some work. It consisted of trying different backgrounds, and going back and forth between filming and editing to make sure I was able to achieve what I was trying to present. The websites focus was to act as a container for everything relating to the project. I felt that the documentation, the progress, the research, and the final video should all be in one location, so the viewer gets the best experience and understanding of what I was trying to present.

The research I found represents this project, as my main focus was to research isolation, and how it relates through technology (specifically mobile phones). The research reflects me, as I was able to relate to everything I found. As I mentioned in my presentation, I am full aware that I depend too much on technology. As I was researching isolation through technology, I began to feel more envolved as I felt I was researching about myself. It brought the research to a more personal level, and began to make my vision of my project a lot more clear.
